profile
Kiri first developed a passion for photography at the age of 17 and studied photography for 5 years, both vocationally and at tertiary level, in the island state of Australia, Tasmania.
The vocational study was instrumental in developing an understanding of photographic practice; from using pinhole cameras and creating photograms, to studio work, and darkroom skills. The study included practical work experience which demonstrated the breadth of opportunities available in the photography sector from commercial colour processing to museum photography.
Kiri’s early work was heavily influenced by the documentary street photography tradition which hails from the 1920’s -1960’s. The influence of this style remains evident in her later work in India. Kiri also began exploring more conceptual themes around the relationship between a musician, their music and their instrument. Read more about Appassionato
At tertiary level, Kiri studied a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a Photography Major at the University of Tasmania. She continued with her musical themes in her work, photographing musicians in the studio in medium format and capturing dancers responding to music.
Kiri now works on both short term and long term documentary and fine art projects. Her work has published on websites for BBCNI, TG4, and Channel 4 Talent, in the daily newspaper the Irish News, and is a regular contributor to youth lifestyle magazine Nos.
Professionally, Kiri is a marketer by trade, and handles the marketing for contemporary photography magazine Source Photographic Review, and the only gallery dedicated to photography in Northern Ireland, Belfast Exposed.
